Photoshop Tutorials: Do Zigzagging on a Family Photo Perfectly

Howdy! In our photo editing section, today we will do zigzagging on a family photo perfectly just using Photoshop. I have spent a lot of time for this purpose and finally I have made Zigzag Panels on my picture successfully. Now I want to share this knowledge with you. For this technique, I will use Zigzag figure from the custom shape tool and dropped the shadow properly of every panel. All guidelines have been written step by step in below. So read this tutorial carefully and do practical work at your end to gain skills.

Steps to Do Zigzagging on a Family Photo Perfectly

Step 1: Open a Family Image For Zigzag Panels

In our first step of this tutorial, open a family image from computer. For this purpose go to File -> Open from the main menu or press the command Ctrl + O. An open dialog window will expose here pick up the require picture from your computer. Do click on the Open button in this window and you will see suddenly your selected picture will open in Photoshop window.

Step 2: Plot the Zigzag Shape

In the second step, remove the lock of the background layer by doing double-click on it. After that go to Custom Shape Tool and pick up the Zigzag figure from shape box. Load more custom shapes see this http://www.photoshophelps.com/2015/08/04/photoshop-basics-load-more-custom-shapes-from-computer/.

The figure has been selected now it’s time to plot the shape on the picture.

Just drag the mouse and plot it with Fill #000000 and Stroke No color. After that with the help of move tool adjust the zigzag panel vertically.

Step 3: Adjust Opacity and Knockout Deep

After plotting the first panel now, go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Blending Option. In pop-up layer style window reduce the Opacity 0% and Knockout Value Deep.

You will see the panel will be converted into transparent.

Step 4: Drop Shadow of Panels

After doing the transparent shape now, It’s time to make the shadow. For this purpose go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Drop Shadow. A Layer Style dialog window will expose. Here adjust the values as.

Blending Mode: Multiple Black
Opacity: 70%
Angle: 30˚
Distance: 5px
Spread: 0%
Size: 5px

Step 5: Make More Duplicate Panel

One panel has been completed, now make the duplicate layers. Press the command Ctrl + J and adjust them with the help of Move Tool like below picture.

Step 6: Merge the All Layers

Merge all layers which are laying in the layer panel. For this determination do Right-click on any layer and pick up the option Visible Merge from the list. You will see all layers will be packed in a single layer.

Now make the new document so go File -> New from the main menu or press the command Ctrl + N. In new document window adjust the values as.

Preset: Custom
Width: 1366 pixels
Height: 768 pixels
Resolution: 120 pixel/ Inch
Color Mode: RGB 8bit
Background Content: White

Keep mind your new document size and resolution should according to the previous document.

Now pick up the Move Tool and drag the Merge layer into the new white document. Here fit it according to sheet size, here in the below picture I have adjusted it.

Ultimate Results

Conclusion

I conclude that we can make Zigzag panels on a photo easily just using Photoshop. We have followed 7 steps to complete our work. First of all opened a family image and unlocked it. After that plotted the zigzag figures with less Opacity, Deep and Drop Shadow. In the end merged all layers and plotted it on the white sheet. This was the complete procedure of this tutorial.
