Photoshop Tutorials: Make a Street Path 3D Map Layout

People are confused about how to design roadmap in Photoshop? They think that it is difficult work and they can’t perform it. If you have needed a map for your documentation or presentation and you don’t know how to construct it? Don’t be worry today we will make a street path 3D map layout in Photoshop for a specific location. In this tutorial you’ve been fully guided with easiest steps.

Make a Street Path 3D Map Layout Step by Step

Step 1: Create Map New Document

First of all create a new document according the size of your desired map. So go to File -> New from a main menu bar or press the command Ctrl + N from the keyboard.

When you will click on the New item a fresh window will prompt up containing further options related to a new file. First of all change the name of a file as “3D Map” with the default name Untitled-1 and Preset value as Custom.

Now set out Width and Height, first think that how much size of the map you have required? Here I’ve put the values of Width 6 Inches and Height 6 Inches.

The next choice is Resolution in this option is important for graphics results. So adjust the resolution as 200 Pixels / Inch. After that put the Color Mode RGB 8bit with Background Contents White.

All fields have been filled now click on an OK button. The new document will appear like below picture.

In the layer panel, you will see a lock on the background layer. Ahead remove this lock by doing Double Click on it. So after that your layer will enable for further working.

Step 2: Change Background of Map Sheet

Later unlocking the layer now change the background color. For this purpose, you must select color #1afdc5 from Color Picker Window. Draw it with Paint Bucket Tool with just a single click on the sheet.

Step 3: Draw Path Lines with Pen Tool

Click on Create New Layer icon from Layer Panel. Select the Freedom Pen Tool from the toolbar and draw the path according to your desire maps. I’m going to draw Path with Fill and Stroke No Color. Do Right Click in any place of the sheet and select the Stroke Path from the list. In new window pick up Pencil and click Ok button.

Go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Stroke from the main menu. And adjust the size 5px, position outside and color #000000.

Go to Edit -> Stroke option from the main menu bar and set the Width 50px , color #f1f2af and click Ok button. You will see the path will become in a solid color.

Pick up pen tool again and do right-click on the map, in the list click on Delete Path from the pop-up list. The pencil path will have been removed from the map.

Step 4: Draw Path in White Color

This step is also same to same previous step 3, create the new layer in layer Panel and select again Freedom Pen Tool and sketch the path lines.

Now do Right Click in the maps and pick up the option Stroke Path and fix the item pencil from the new window.

Go to Layer -> Layer Style -> Stroke and modify the Size 4px with color #000000.

Now go to Edit -> Stroke put the value of Width 40px, Color #ffffff, Location Center and do click on Ok button. The paths will show in white color like the below picture.

Here is a problem you will see there is a black line in between the paths. So remove this first just do Right Click on the Map after selecting Freedom Pen Tool and pick up the option Remove Path. Now drag the Layer 2 in blow the Layer 1.

Step 5: Usage Hard Round Brush Tool

All paths have been drawn now paint the roads sides by Hard Brush Tool B with color #02f4a7 and #6aebc2. So select the layer 0 and pick up the Hard Brush with size 280pxthen paint around the paths by holding the Left Click.

Step 6: Write Road Names

Without roads names map is useless so now write the names of paths just select the type tool and write the names of every road with text format Arial, Font Size 10pt and Font Color #000000. If  you want more text styles in your Photoshop then see this

Step 7: Make 3D Post Card Form

The 3D option is available in Photoshop CS 5 so I’m using that version right know. First of all you must merge all layers before making 3D. So go to Layer -> Merge Visible from a main menu, you will see all layers will be packed in a single layer. Now go to 3D -> New 3D Postcard From Layer option and select Object Rotate Tool and adjust the position of a map in 3 Dimensions. Look below picture you will understand better.

Step 8: Drop Inner Shadow

Now give the layer effects, so go to Layer -> Inner Shadow from the Menu Bar. A new window will open, here checked the Drop Shadow and modify the values as Opacity 30%, Angle 90°, Distance 61px, Size 98px. Now click on Inner Shadow and put the values Opacity 70%, Angle 90°, Size 250px and click the Ok button.

Insert 3d images related to school, bank, park and police etc into the map. Finally, we have made 3d street map expertly in Photoshop just in few minutes. At the last save a final map in PNG image format. Go to File -> Save in new window give the name of file and extension PNG and click on save button. I concluded that it is not difficult to make 3d maps in Photoshop. In this above tutorial, I’ve described all process in 8 steps. First we created a new document for a map. Changed the background and drawn path by Freedom Pen Tool. Gave the Stroke to all paths and wrote the names of roads by Type Tool. After that merged all layer into one and picked the option Object Rotate Tool for 3D functionality. Rotated the layer vertically and horizontally. At the last inserted 3d images and saved it in PNG image format.
